From the makers of the award-winning and critically acclaimed success, The Genius of Photography, comes the latest BBC2 commission, The Genius of Design. A series we are delighted to report that includes a common sense furniture company, an elegant shelving system and a revered industrial designer.
Featuring the humble opinions of 606 Universal Shelving System designer Dieter Rams and Vitsœ’s managing director Mark Adams the five weekly episodes trace the story of design from the Industrial Revolution to the present day.
The series follows the accidental birth of design as a by-product of the ‘division of labour’ through to the pivotal role it occupies today as we grapple with issues of over-production, consumption and the environment in the twenty-first century.
