Vitsœ talks: the genius of design
27 April 2010

On Monday 10 May we are peering behind the scenes of a story of design. Tim Kirby, series producer of the new BBC commission The Genius of Design, joins us to discuss the inspiration and production of the series and its considered attitude to the subject.
Comparing the programme’s approach to the topic of design with television’s treatment of the subject in the past, Tim will contemplate the impact of the industrial revolution, the importance of weaponry and defence design and explore the new technology and materials of the late twentieth century.
Tim’s past credits, as producer and director, include the award-winning series ‘The Genius of Photography’, ‘Simon Schama’s History of Britain’ and the documentary ‘Reputations: Alfred Hitchcock’. Having worked as a commissioning editor at Channel 4 for two years he decided it was more fun actually making programmes. He still believes this to be true.
