On Monday 15 February we are exploring an intriguing collection of hearts as graphic designer Brian Webb joins us to host a talk examining the inner soul of a lovingly curated collection.

Before starting Webb & Webb in 2003 Brian Webb was a designer and director at design agency Trickett & Webb. Founded in 1971 Trickett & Webb received countless international design awards and has work in many permanent museum collections including the V&A London and Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Amassed with the enquiring mind and keen eye of an accomplished graphic designer Brian Webb’s collection of hearts has grown into a collection of collections; an eccentric take on the world of miniature graphics.

As Brian puts it…

One’s nice, two’s a coincidence.
– a heart shaped chocolate box led to a collection of early twentieth century wonders of cardboard engineering

Two’s a coincidence
– an early 19th century potter’s love heart (Staffordshire potters made ceramic messages for their girlfriends) grew into a collection of secret ceramics

Three’s a collection
– a first world war paper heart flag day flag grew into a sad, funny collection of powerful and political miniature graphics”
