Why Vitsœ?
Rather than try to persuade you ourselves, we thought you might like to read the musings of architecture and design critic, Hugh Pearman.
What Vitsœ means – for anyone who has considered everything else, spent valuable time agonising over this new name or that, and then inevitably returned to the mother lode, is this: Vitsœ makes your decisions for you. All but one: the one where you say – OK, let’s consider Vitsœ.
After that, it’s easy. Because Vitsœ’s 606 Universal Shelving System can do almost anything, will fit anywhere, will always look good and will perform impeccably. It has done this for 50 years and it has no intention of stopping now.
With 606, you are not just buying the various components of a remarkably intelligent and practical shelving/storage/furniture system. You are buying a lineage. You are buying into design in its purest sense, which means a design that is time-tested and future-proof.
It began life in 1959, it has gently and constantly evolved to meet present day requirements, and it will continue to do so. Since the original idea, by the legendary designer Dieter Rams, was so good (and since Dieter continues to oversee his brainchild today) that’s really all there is to it.
Home and office, modern and traditional
The first decision crunch point is usually this one: will it suit my home or office? No decision needed: 606 works and looks good everywhere, in every conceivable kind of interior, from minimalist to High Victorian. It fixes to every kind of surface or can be compressed between the floor and the ceiling.
Transcending fashion, style and taste
The second decision glitch moment is this: does it make the style statement I want? Again, no decision needed. 606 does not make any kind of style statement beyond the eternal one of quiet good taste. It is not a styled product. It is a designed system. The fact that it is timeless is more than enough. It is like the quintessential English butler: unobtrusive, efficient, dependable.
What does the future hold?
And the third one is: what if my needs change and I want a different arrangement? How can I plan for that? Answer: you don’t need to. Re-planning is deep in the DNA of 606. It is not an object. It is an elegant kit of parts. It comprises a number of components designed to a choice of module sizes, all of which can be combined in any number of ways. And later, re-combined in different ways. Your kitchen shelf might turn into part of your daughter’s wardrobe.
