Vitsœ talks: Edward Jessen
13 June 2011

At Vitsœ we have always understood that our shelving system represents the sum of innumerable details, all crafted with care and attention.
On Monday 20 June, we are joined, in our London shop, by composer Edward Jessen who will guide us through how this approach is also best applied to the realm of music.
He will take us through the delicate emotional balances found in sound and music, describing the aural/visual processes of making performances from the minutiae of expression. Less a case of music to accompany an image, but moreso an image of what links might be made by turning everything to the purposes of communicating through sound.
Jessen’s music is centred upon diagrammatic aspects of our hearing. He works with a distiller’s approach to sound – often refining single elements to best evoke a sonic, legible event or a phenomenologic message.
Recent collaborative projects have included the Royal Observatory and Planetarium in Greenwich, Orkest ‘de ereprijs’, the Hilliard Ensemble and for the London Symphony Orchestra.
Jessen is a member of the composition faculty at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
