Designing for the long term has been in Vitsœ’s DNA since birth. Today some call it sustainability but we call it common sense. On Monday 4 October Alex Goddard, assistant keeper at The Geffrye Museum, joins us to discuss why such issues are at the front of her mind when recording the history of British domestic design.

She will guide us through the museum’s approach to recreating a historic interior and discuss how product design can pass the test of time even when set against the backdrop of our current consumption habits.

Opened in 1914, The Geffrye Museum was to provide a reference collection of furniture of a ‘fine standard of technical and artistic excellence’ to educate and inspire the local workforce. Today, it depicts the quintessential style of English middle-class living rooms from 1600 to the present day, documenting a fascinating journey of interior design.
