Vitsœ’s managing director, Mark Adams, will join a panel of manufacturing industry figures at a public discussion about the changing face of production at London’s Southbank Centre on 13 August 2011.

The free event, which will be introduced by Jing Lu of Black Country Atelier and led by broadcaster Evan Davis, will examine how free software, DIY production and traditional manufacturing might sit together in the future.

The discussion forms part of a weekend programme around the theme of Power and Production. In addition to the panel event, visitors can take part in a number of workshops on subjects as diverse as 3D printing and smartphone apps, as well as a cinema screening reliant on the pedal-power of the audience.

The weekend comes as part of a wider celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain.

Described at the time as a “tonic to the nation” the Festival of Britain, which begun on 3 May 1951, was created to give Britons a feeling of recovery and progress following the Second World War. At the heart of the nationwide Festival was the South Bank Exhibition, situated on what is now the Southbank Centre.

Other themes for the celebrations this summer include People of Britain, Sea and Ships and Land of Britain.
