Less, but better: a return to common sense
13 November 2007

The RSA invited Vitsœ’s Mark Adams to talk to them
From Brundtland, via Kyoto (and Katrina) to Stern, finally the penny seems to be dropping. Despite Dieter Rams’s understandable frustration that nobody has been listening, perhaps a change is now afoot.
In his RSA address at The Lighthouse, Glasgow, Mark Adams, managing director of Vitsœ, explored why intelligent, responsible people can see the madness of the short-term, throwaway, new-obsessed world that we have become but why society and business seem so unable to address the issues.
Surely a more serene world is preferable to one in which less contentment is the result of the headlong pursuit of more?
With the privilege of working with Dieter Rams for over 20 years, Mark drew upon the thinking of Niels Vitsœ and Rams to illustrate his wide-ranging talk. “Inspiring”, “enlightening” and “challenging” were amongst the comments posted after the event.
You can download the full lecture and subsequent discussion from the RSA’s website. Pop it on your Rams-inspired iPod.
