Rams needs a larger mantelpiece

The Raymond Loewy Foundation Designer Award is one of the most prestigious international design awards. On 15 November 2007 it was presented to Vitsœ’s designer, Dieter Rams, in recognition of his life-time achievements.

Former German chancellor, Gerhard Schröder, popped in to deliver an entertaining speech in which he acknowledged Rams’s early influences on Schröder’s world.

Rams introduced the idea of sustainable development in design in the 1970s. Still, today, he is proclaiming as passionately as ever his message for integrity in design and, albeit belatedly, the world finally seems to be taking note.
